Hey there, gorgeous soul! š¼ I’m here to share a little of my journey as a new mom whoās also diving deep into the world of creativity and entrepreneurship. After running my own handmade and machine/tool-assisted businesses for the past decade, I’ve learned a thing or two about how I can blend work with motherhood. So, grab a cup of coffee (or a fresh tacita de cafĆ©, if you’re feeling fancy š), and letās chat about how to navigate this new lifeābecause trust me, itās a wild ride!
The Balancing Act š¢
Now, if youāre anything like me, you might find yourself juggling a million things at once. Between diaper changes, sleepless nights, and trying to keep your business afloat, it’s no wonder new moms sometimes feel like they’re being pulled in every direction! And guess what? That’s completely okay.
Embracing Imperfections: It’s crucial to let go of the idea that everything has to be perfect. I mean, who even sets those standards? The truth is, life is messyājust like my sonās cute little spit-ups. So, if your latest project is a bit crooked or not as polished as you’d like, embrace it! I’ve even told those who’ve purchased my ceramics that particular batches were made whilst pregnant or wearing my baby, and they love that! Celebrate the unique flair it brings, just like we celebrate our little one’s happy squeals, imperfect as they may be.
Eco-Friendly Motherhood šā»ļø
As I step into this new phase of life, Iām super conscious about making choices that lean towards sustainability. I truly believe that what we choose to bring into our homes and businesses can have a big impact. So, how can you be a creative entrepreneur and an eco-friendly mom without getting overwhelmed? Let’s break it down:
-
Mindful Material Choices: When sourcing materials for your handmade projects, prioritize eco-friendly options. Think organic fabrics, recycled paper, or local supplies. Itās like setting an example for our little ones on how to care for the earth from day one. For example, my little one is always wearing muslin cloth bibs to catch his drool and spit-up from Diaper Squad, and on top of being one-woman-owned and operated (love to see it), the packaging is also plastic-free!
-
Limit Consumerism: One of my goals as a new mom is to avoid the excessive consumerism that can sometimes take over. Instead of filling our homes with stuff just because it looks cute or is trending, I focus on quality over quantity. Trust me, thereās beauty in minimalism, and itās totally liberating! And if you must have art on your wall, lean into purchasing illustration art from your favorite artists or utilizing your own photographyāyou’ll be surprised how nicely our phone photos print.
-
Involve Your Little One: Even though my 3-month-old canāt help with the more hands-on tasks yet, he loves watching me work. Whether itās from his bouncer or snuggled in my baby carrier, having him close reminds me why I do what I do. Plus, I like to think heās absorbing all this creativity through osmosisāwho knows? Maybe one day heāll be our little eco-warrior, too! š
Finding Your Tribe š¤āØ
Community means everything when youāre finding your way through the colorful chaos of motherhood and entrepreneurship. Join local crafting groups, plug into online forums, and seek out like-minded moms who prioritize sustainability. This journey doesnāt have to be a solo endeavor; itās so much richer when youāre surrounded by those with shared values.
The Power of Intention š
Now, I stumbled upon a saying that resonated with me during these early days of motherhood: āWhatever you are not changing, you are choosing.ā Deep, right? Itās a little harsh but liberating. It reminds me that if there’s something I’m not happy withāwhether itās with my business or my approach to lifeāI have the power to change it. So, as we navigate this journey, let’s keep our intentions clear.
Ask yourself: What do you want to create? What does motherhood mean to you? And how can you make intentional choices that align with your brand and your life as a mom?
Wrapping Up šæš¼
So, whether you’re a crafty mama, a DIY enthusiast, or just someone trying to make the best choices for yourself and your baby, remember that this journey is uniquely yours. Thereās no wrong way to do it, and every step taken with intention counts.
So hereās to embracing the chaos, lifting each other up, and crafting a little magic in our homes and businessesāone imperfect project at a time. Letās keep it real, light-hearted, and always filled with love, but take no sh*t either!
Until next time, amigasāhappy crafting! āØ
